Background:
Opened in 1966, the school boasts 'panoramic views' of the Isles of Scilly, for which it is the only secondary school. It has feeder primary schools on St Mary's, Tresco, St Agnes and St Martin's. There are 'plenty of places available' in the school, which welcomes newcomers and its 'main curriculum strength' comes from its pupil:teacher ration of about 8:1. It recently added a hard-surface recreation court, a design studio and a drama studio and its sports facilities include a gymnasium and the Garrison playing fields. The school offer a choice of more than 20 extra-curricular activities in addition to the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, and French exchange visits. There is also an adventure week in North Wales for Years 8 and 9, study weeks in Sheffield for Year 10 and work experience for all Year 10 pupils.
